[He chuckles a little bit, willing to roll with that talking too much punch.]

It's a curse, I'm afraid. Angels are prone to blathering.

[But he pauses, and his expression becomes more serious.]

...Keep in mind that those things would only be true if I was actually an angel, as I said. I am a demon. My life growing up was much different than a life of luxury and ease.

[Another small laugh.]

I was only kidding.

Not so much on Veldime. Alche City was abandoned, so any slums there are empty as well. No, I grew up in a remote farming village. But that's not why life was hard.

When I was very young, yes. Though Dad actually had an office job eventually. But that's not what I'm getting at. My home, Holt Village, was on a small human world called Veldime. But when I was about two, a demon Overlord took over all of Veldime and cursed it, and all the people in it. The curse caused land to rot and decay, and people affected began to change into demons... losing their consciences... and their memories.

I was the only one in Holt, and most of Veldime, who was unaffected by the curse. ...That was the kind of world I grew up in; seeing my adoptive family, everyone I cared about around me suffer this curse while the world slowly wasted away because of it.

Mmm. What was rougher was when I made the promise to save my family by defeating Overlord Zenon and breaking his curse. I trained, fought, and bled every day after I took that oath. I nearly died several times, but I pressed on. ...Just wanted my family to be safe and happy.

...Eventually did it with the help of a few friends. But that journey was hard, long, and painful. But... it was worth every bit of it, even if it didn't grant me status or noble image.
