127. Change

Well, now that I'm back to being myself again and I've had a couple days to finish almost everything up...

The tea house is officially open for business! Even if it doesn't have a name yet. It's on top of the Welcome Center, and you should really come check it out! We have a little more than just tea.

[There's a moment when she comes back out of the kitchen and can't figure out where Raine went. Then she looks in where the low tables are and smiles. No one had chosen to sit there yet.

In front of Raine on the table goes a tray with teapot, mug, and plate of lemon tart. Thinking of something from earlier, she picks up the teapot and pours the first cup for her. Even though it's Raine.]

[wise_maiden]

Thank you. [Raine looks up at Sheena when she approaches, and smiles.] Having this section is a nice touch.

[corrinesbell]

You really think so? ...This is the part that makes me think about home.

[Sheena's not often fidgety anymore but she is right now] I guess...I guess maybe I'm worried I'm gonna start to forget.

[wise_maiden]

I don't think you will. Besides, not all reminders have to be sad ones. When you get back, you might not even remember all this.

[corrinesbell]

I know. ...But I've gotta be honest with you, Raine, after almost four years, 'when you get back' doesn't sound like it used to.

...It's just that this is something really permanent, y'know?

[wise_maiden]

Yet it's always a possibility. Don't forget that.

[A pause, as she considers her next words.] You really think so?

[corrinesbell]

[There is some part of her that has kept on stopping her from kneeling at the table with Raine. So she's still standing there with a bit of a fidget.]

Well yeah. I mean, if I did go home I figure someone else'd keep this place around - I hope, at least - but...it feels a little bit like admitting...that I like some part of living here.

[wise_maiden]

This place has good qualities as well as bad ones. We tend to emphasize on the bad ones to try and keep ourselves in check.

[corrinesbell]

...Well the bad ones are really bad.

[wise_maiden]

If there weren't any good ones, we wouldn't have any reason to keep on each day. It's just... a balance, really.

[corrinesbell]

[This isn't quite the reassurance she was hoping for.

But if she knows what she wants to hear, then she ought to be able to tell it to herself, and save people the trouble of guessing. If only it worked that way.]

Lemme know if you want anything else, okay?

[wise_maiden]

[It's not really fair to have them guess. Especially if what they do say isn't good enough.]

Hm? Yes, of course. [Now she'll actually get to trying the offered food. The tarts did look tasty.]

[It isn't about fairness, sometimes.

Sheena waits another awkward half-moment before heading back into the kitchen.]

[wise_maiden]

[She's a little surprised when Sheena decides to leave, but she didn't know what could be done for it. After all, didn't Raine run a school here? Did Sheena think she had given up? The ninja wasn't very forthcoming about what she thought about that. So there really wasn't much she could say on the matter.

She eats a little of the tart, sips a little at the tea, rising with it to look out of one of the windows. Still raining. Hm.]

[corrinesbell]

[She decided to leave because that's what she thinks people are going to want when they come here - either time to talk with the people who come with them, or time alone to think. If it takes some correcting to get her to realize otherwise...well then it'll take some.

The rain isn't helping, but at least it just seems like a calm, if steady, sort of rain.]

[wise_maiden]

[ it doesn't make any sense because it's Raine, and hadn't they been past this? though they've had this discussion before, with similar results.

but if that was the way it had to be, then so it was. ]

[corrinesbell]

[It wasn't about the subject of the discussion, at least.

And they may have occasion to talk again if Raine decides to investigate that clang and shatter sound (and the cursing) in the kitchen]

[wise_maiden]

[The noise catches her attention, though it's a few moments before she moves over to investigate. Distracted, just a bit.]

Sheena?

[corrinesbell]

[It's a little muffled through the wall, but] I'm okay!

[wise_maiden]

Are you sure?

[corrinesbell]

Yeah! I just made a mess. [and then some indecipherable grumbling]

[wise_maiden]

Well, if you need anything...

[corrinesbell]

[a snort that she may or may not be able to hear]

Besides new feet?

[wise_maiden]

[ and teasing. ] Don't tell me you fell into a hole.

[corrinesbell]

No. I'd be downstairs by now. ...I ran myself into the counter.

[it's gonna leave one heck of a bruise on her hip, too. But right now she's in there cleaning up the mess on the floor.]
