Huh? What did Richter do?

It's a long story, but if you got time, I'll give you the gist. Basically, Emil isn't a human. He's a summon spirit, also known as Ratatosk.

A little after the worlds were reunited, Ratatosk killed Richter's friend, and then Richter hunted down Ratatosk's core, which had become Emil, and tried to kill him, over and over. He formed pacts with the demons of Nifilheim in order to be strong enough to fight with Lloyd and the rest of us, and we had to stop him from opening the gate to Nifilheim itself in the end.

Or in other words, he was a jerk out for vengeance.

Emil's a summon spirit?

...We didn't like wreck the world again or anything like that in the middle of all this, did we?

Yeah, he is. Technically, he was formerly the summon spirit of the Kharlan Tree. Now he rules over mana and monsters, kind of. It's hard to explain.

Nah, though people tried to frame Lloyd for leveling Palmacosta a second time. That was a mess.

Huh. I'd never have guessed that.

Leveling Palmacosta? Hasn't that happened enough times already?!

Yeah, but anyways, when he gets all mad and bitchy? That's Ratatosk's real personality. For the most part.

You'd think so, but the Vanguard had to level it in order to stir up conflict with the Church of Martel. Damn, I still don't know how a war didn't break out.

You know, I'm not sure, other than in the end, Emil and Ratatosk became virtually two different people, though they were in the same body. Though, if Tenebrae can be here, too, then who knows, really.

Technically, he is from that time. If Emil managed to get hurt badly enough or killed, he might just turn into his core form.

I don't either. Ratatosk is a special case for a summon spirit, however.
