29. Animals

There are foxes in my house. ...They're red. And...so small...they...

Birds, too. ...And I think a couple of cats are hiding out in the empty bedroom.

I hate whoever's doing this. The things I'm hearing are...are exactly like the things that the Malnosso do to us. Cruel and pointless. Those of you who went after them...I hope you find them quick. And stop them.

[sigh] Hey, Pearl, you wanna help me get some food together for these guys?

Yeah, I've been chatting with this one a bit... as much as I'm able to. He says it's hard to talk to me when my mind's so occupied with other things... somethin' about I'm not able to focus right. I dunno, I think I'd be bad at it anyway.

*takes a sip of the tea and closes his eyes briefly, it's warm and soothing*

Spirits? Huh... not sure what you mean by that. I've heard people talkin' about magic an' what not, but I'm happy with my Innocence, really.

The nightmares don't come when someone else's around, y'know? When you an' Lenalee were hurt an' I rested with you, an' when Zero took care of me when I was sick... I didn't have 'em as badly as before. 'm sure this guy'll help with that, too, somehow.

I dunno, I guess we're that way by nature... 's not good to let your emotions get in the way of doin' your job, especially when a lotta innocent people can die because of it.
