101. Experience

I've really gotta get back to training, so I'm looking to spar with a couple people. Anyone interested? I promise I'll go easy on you.

[[ooc: And I happen to really like writing out fight threads, but I know not all people do, so let me know which one you prefer if your character's interested.]]

[Mercury's quick- but not enough, this time. She finds herself blinking a couple times, trying to pull herself together when she's not even sure why she's not together. Had Sheena hit her...? She doesn't feel an injury...]

[Sheena's grinning. That attack takes energy from the opponent and gives some of it back to her. Now she steps back and waits. Ami did the same for her, after all.]

[Oh, Sheena. There is only one possible reaction to that as Mercury quickly pieces together what must have happened.]

I want to learn it, too.

I'll think about it.

[Something changes right about then. Mercury's still smiling, but instead of that somewhat forced-seeming smirk, it's become a girl actually enjoying herself. This is fun, testing her limits, having a partner that challenges her, seeing these new techniques.

This doesn't mean she'll make it easy. Mercury gives a brusque nod, and steps in towards Sheena again. She'd rather keep her distance from the cards, but her sword's range isn't enough unless she channels her energy through it, which she doesn't want to do right now.]

[Sheena can do distance. She takes a ninja-jump and throws a 'few,' which are meant to become a kind of ring of cards that stops you from going places. No one on this end of the narration actually understands just how that works. Go with it]

[She suspects interfering with the cards themselves would be about as useful as interfering with the ofuda used in one of Mars' attacks. No, it's the attack she has to neutralize instead. It doesn't even take her a second to realize it, but without an idea to counter it- she finds herself held.]

[The technique behind the cards is so secretive that only Sheena knows it. So messing with them? No idea what that'd do. On its own, just holding her there isn't very useful when there's nothing for Sheena to recover from, so as she rushes in to attack she'll let her go. So Ami can defend. This is a spar, Sheena, not a real fight, geez]

[It's OK; Mercurys hide an over-competitive streak. As soon as she's free to move, Mercury changes direction - Sheena's had way too much time to prepare for whatever move Mercury was setting up before. She lines herself up and turns towards Sheena, weapon striking upward towards the midsection.]

[she stumbles back, the edge of the sword leaving a cut that is much less serious than intended. Thankfully. Catching herself in a stumble of all things, she jumps and flips backwards, landing at a safe distance. ...A stronger Life Seal would be great right about now...]

[And Mercury makes a flying leap forward, landing perfectly. She does smirk now as her sword slices upward.]

[another jump and twist takes Sheena over Ami's head, landing behind her. She'll try to catch herself fast enough to spring forward and hit Ami with another Life Seal, but it's debatable]

[Mercury turns before Sheena's set up, and by the time Sheena lands... she's right there. The sword rips towards Sheena's hands again- the focus has been there consistently to try to disarm them.]

[as though a ninja is useless without her hands. But she wasn't ready for that at all, and flinches with a hiss as her left hand drops its cards. That one's a little more serious]

[No, but getting rid of the cards is good. Mercury runs in to kick them away, in the hopes of making it no longer worthwhile to salvage them.]

[When Ami turns back around, both of Sheena's hands will be full again, even if the one is bleeding.

...She keeps spares. Really. If she only had four she'd have been reduced to hand-to-hand a long time ago]

[Well there goes that idea. Mercury takes a stronger stance, and still keeps her focus on Sheena's hands, this time to prevent her from getting the space and chance to use the cards.]

[She's got a really good friend who fights solely with his feet.]

You look kinda surprised.

Focus on your own fighting!

Or are you saying you want to stop?

[attacking now. Aiming for her midsection, just below her ribs, in a solid plain old hand strike]

[Siiiiidestep~]

If I really wanted to knock you down.

[if this were a boss fight it would be working very differently. ...But some skills just don't get revealed in practice fights. Sheena takes a couple steps back, and her cards flash briefly red]

[Mercury assumes the red flash is powering the cards somehow; she slices right for them to interrupt it.]

[it doesn't give them more power. It just gives them the attribute of fire, temporarily. Sheena moves fast enough to get them out of the way, then bring them together into an X-shaped strike around the sword.]

[Fire is weak to Water. Water surrounds the sword to protect it - it is originally made from ice, even if it isn't quite the same now, of course - and to cut into the Fire.]
